(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Man's best friend became the enemy when a Georgia woman who already beat cancer twice fought another illness. And it turned out she may have gotten it from her dog.
Earlier this month, Hannah Rinehart was diagnosed with a rare bacterial infection that's found in dog saliva.
Doctors believe the puppy she and her husband adopted made her sick.
The bacteria does not normally cause infections, but Hannah's immune system was weakened by two bone marrow transplants. She's already lost her hands and feet to the illness.
Hannah's family says what matters is that's she's fighting through this. Her husband says they will decide whether to keep the dog when she comes out of her medically-induced coma.
