Melissa's Bill to officially become Melissa's Law

Posted: Updated:

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Melissa's Bill will become Melissa's Law. Gov. Deval Patrick says he will soon sign the crime bill which targets repeat offenders.

The bill bans parole for three-time convicted violent felons. It has been a 13-year crusade for the family of Melissa Gosule, a young school teacher who was kidnapped, raped and murdered by a paroled criminal.

The debate over Melissa's Law recently gained interest in the wake of the murder of Woburn police officer Jack Maguire. Jack Maguire was shot to death during a robbery gone wrong by a paroled felon.

Officer Jack Mcguire's brother chuck has been a supporter of Melissa's Law and he joined the FOX 25 Morning News from our Beacon Hill studio, along with Rep. Jim Dwyer of Woburn, who also fought for the bill.
