Bray's Hamburgers in Westland raided by federal agents

Posted: Updated:
WESTLAND, Mich. (WJBK) -

A local burger restaurant was raided by the feds.  Agents searched Bray's in Westland and several other locations connected to the owner.

Employees at Bray's Hamburgers in Westland were forced to stand and wait in the parking lot while federal agents raided the restaurant on Ford Road around 11:00 a.m. Thursday.

A source said they were looking for financial records, documents and bank statements.  Agents were seen carrying a bag and boxes out of the building.

An FBI spokesperson confirmed a search warrant was executed as part of an investigation into a man associated with Bray's Hamburgers, which at one point had multiple locations and is best known for the rooftop donkey and regular customers.

"We come here all the time," said customer Lucille Roose.  "We like the restaurant.  We never knew they had any kind of problems."

Records show the original owners sold the Westland location last year.  The same person that owns Bray's now owns Capital Coney Island on Eight Mile in Ferndale.

Besides Westland, federal agents also searched the Ferndale restaurant.  Employees off camera told us they were there about an hour and didn't find anything.

We're also told the feds searched another location in Troy.

We're told no one was arrested and after the raids the restaurants were back open for business.
