Chief: Comcast arrests fueled by fake IDs

Posted: Updated:

MANSFIELD (AP) - Mansfield's police chief says a rash of arrests during recent concerts at the Comcast Center have been sparked in large part by underage drinking fueled by sophisticated new fake IDs and hiding booze in ordinary looking containers.

Chief Arthur O'Neill says fake IDs are nothing new, but police have found underage drinkers with "nearly perfect" IDs bought online.

He tells The Sun Chronicle they are "government-quality documents" nearly impossible to detect with the naked eye.

The focus on drinking and drug use at concerts at the Comcast Center has intensified since the death of two concertgoers during a recent rave festival.

Another concert resulted in nearly 100 people being either arrested or taken into protective custody because of alcohol use.

The recent problems will be discussed at Wednesday's selectmen's meeting.
