Officials say the bus was in a no-stopping zone in Kenmore Square just before 9 a.m. Thursday when a supervisor with the Boston Transportation Department prepared to write a ticket.

The bus driver, Lataria Milton, took off and struck the officer and slammed into nearby cars. No passengers were on the bus at the time.

The officer was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Witnesses said Milton may have been eating breakfast before the altercation.

Milton, who has been on the job for 10 years, was arrested by Transit Police and charged with Assault and Battery with a Dangerous weapon and Operating to Endanger. She will be arraigned Friday at Roxbury District Court.
