NEWTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The East Middlesex
Mosquito Control may be your last line of defense against EEE or West Nile if
you happen to live in the most popular county in all of New England.
Crews with East Middlesex Mosquito Control took to the streets of Newton on Thursday to help control West
Nile.
The crews have hit 50,000 storm drains since the beginning of the summer. They have been spraying standing water
targets with two types of larvicide: a bacterial agent and a growth inhibiting
hormone.
However, given the complexities of the urban and non-urban areas that coexist
throughout Massachusetts, mosquito control
says the fight against West Nile is also a
battle against public perception.
One of the group's main protocols is to attack the problem quickly so the
insects don't have a chance to develop immunity.
