NORFOLK, VA. (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney tapped Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his vice presidential running mate on Saturday.
After months of speculation, Republican presidential candidate and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has introduced Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin as his vice presidential running mate.
The announcement happened in Norfolk, Virginia Saturday morning. Ryan is the author of a controversial budget plan to cut trillions in federal spending and make major changes to Medicare.
The highly anticipated announcement came after intense speculation, at times including candidates from New England. New Hampshire Senator Kelly Ayotte had been rumored to be on the short list.
This week the White House flatly denied a report that President Obama had suggested CIA Director General David Petraeus was interested in the VP job. The Drudge Report said Romney had secretly met with Petraeus in New Hampshire.
Romney begins a bus tour today through four swing states. It ends in Ohio on Tuesday.
