MWRA wind turbine in Charlestown back up and running after delays

Posted: Updated:

FOX UNDERCOVER - A green energy project in Charlestown is back online after months of delays due to construction problems.

The contractor paid for the repair work to the giant blades of the MWRA's wind turbine which finally started spinning earlier this week.

FOX Undercover first reported the delays in July after learning that the landmark wind turbine had stopped cold in January.  The newly-built turbine was shut down after only three months in operation because the structure had settled about an inch more than expected into the ground.

The turbine was built with nearly $5 million in federal stimulus money.  It is expected to generate about $350,000 worth of electricity a year.
