QUINCY (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Over half a century after leaving the military, a Quincy man has received five medals for his service during World War II.
Leo Leary received the five medals and two pins after his daughter wrote a letter about his service in the Navy to Senator Scott Brown in May, reports the Patriot Ledger.
The senator's office reportedly coordinated with the Air Force, National Archives, and the Records Administration to ensure that Leary received his medals. Leary received awards that included the World War II Victory medal and the Honorable Service lapel pin.
The 86-year-old spent four years in the Navy. He joined in January 1943 at age 17.
