
ROWLEY (AP) - A Peabody man police say is a dangerous and violent serial robber has been sentenced to up to 10 years in prison.
Michael Whitcomb was sentenced Wednesday for twice robbing Skip's Country Store in Rowley as well as Georgetown Liquor Store and establishments in Peabody and Salem last September and October.
The 41-year-old Whitcomb pleaded guilty to five counts of armed robbery, a charge of unarmed robbery, three counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of assault and battery and a larceny charge and was sentenced to right to eight to 10 years behind bars.
Georgetown Chief James Mulligan tells The Newburyport Daily News that Whitcomb is a violent predator who preyed on people unable to defend themselves and often threatened or attacked store employees.
