KINGSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The victim of a crash in Kingston Monday evening was remembered as a "great kid."

Chad Kierstead, 19, died after the car he was riding in crashed on Elm Street at about 9 p.m.

Family friends told FOX 25 News that Kierstead was a U.S. Coast Guard seaman apprentice on the USCGC Reliance out of Kittery, Maine.

"He was a great kid. (He) joined the Coast Guard (and) was going to learn a trade and find out where he wanted to go in life," said Plymouth Fire Chief Ed Bradley.

Kierstead's father and uncle are lieutenants in the fire department.

"Chad probably thought about it and I know it's probably one of the reasons he went into the service," said Bradley.

Three other 19-year-old men, all close friend's of Kierstead's, were also injured in the crash. Their names were not officially released by authorities and FOX 25 News chose not to broadcast them ahead of police out of respect for their families.

Kingston police said that based on witness accounts speed was likely the cause of the crash.

The crash was under investigation.
