
LAWRENCE (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Lawrence man who was wanted on outstanding arrest warrants swam across the Merrimack River Tuesday afternoon to avoid being capture by police.
According to the Eagle Tribune, 30-year-old Eric Moreno missed a court appearance on a charge of breaking and entering in the night time and larceny under $250.
Detective David J. Moynihan Jr. told the newspaper he was heading north on Broadway when he noticed Moreno riding a bike southbound over the Falls Bridge. When Detective Moynihan got out of his car, Moreno recognized him, dropped his bike and ran into the street. Moreno was almost struck by a car.
Moreno then fled the scene and as officers closed in on him and jumped into the Merrimack River.
The two-hour search was called off and police were unable to find Moreno.
