The total number of firearms sold in Massachusetts on the tax holiday weekend has increased for the past three years.
Data released by the Massachusetts Department of Criminal Justice Information Services shows that 1,391 firearms were purchased between Aug. 11 and 12 in the Bay State. That was up from 1,294 purchased on the tax holiday weekend in 2011.
In 2010, 927 guns were sold on the tax holiday.
Officials said the numbers reflect transactions recorded using the MIRCS Dealer Application as well as the firearms transaction recording form.
