BOSTON (AP) - A woman who dated former Boston gangster James "Whitey" Bulger
for nearly three decades has been remembered as someone who was devoted to her
family.
Teresa Stanley died Thursday of lung cancer at her home in South Boston. She
was 71.
Stanley began seeing Bulger in the 1960s and was with him for almost 30
years.
Stanley fled briefly with Bulger in 1994, but quickly returned to Boston.
Bulger then took Catherine Greig - a woman he had been dating at the same time -
on the run with him. The couple was arrested in Santa Monica, Calif., last year
after 16 years.
Bulger is awaiting trial on charges he participated in 19 murders.
The Boston Globe reported that mourners at
Stanley's funeral Mass Tuesday said she was a woman who always put her family
first.
