(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A man convicted of one of the worst crimes in the state's history wants to change the name that has long been linked to evil.
Court documents show that child murderer Charles Jaynes wants to go by the name Manasseh-Invictus Auric Thutmose V.
Jaynes is serving a life sentence for the 1997 kidnapping, molestation and murder of Jeffrey Curley. He won't be eligible for parole until 2021.
Jaynes and Salvatore Sicari lured the boy into a car with the promise of a new bicycle.
A filing with the Plymouth division of the Probate and Family Court Department says Jaynes is seeking the change due to his Wiccan beliefs. Wicca is a religion that incorporates the practice of witchcraft.
Jeffrey Curley's father discussed the matter with FOX 25's Ted Daniel on Wednesday.
"When I initially heard it I laughed," said Bob Curley. "I thought it was ridiculous."
Curley describes Jaynes as pure evil and says the name change shouldn't be allowed.
"It's a public safety issue he's eligible for parole and will probably get out of jail one day if people can believe that and if he's got an alias ur not going to know who's living next door," says Curley.
Anyone objecting to the change will have until Monday to contact the court.
