LYNN (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A Lynn man is facing
assault and battery charges after he reportedly hit his toddler for crying and
then poured beer all over the child's mother when she pleaded with him to stop,
police said.
Adam Hope, 25, was scheduled to appear in court Thursday for a dangerousness
hearing for an incident that occurred around 6:07 p.m. on Monday. He is charged
with two counts of assault and battery and assault and battery on a child,
reports The Daily Item.
A police officer stated that he was stopped at a red light in his cruiser when
he observed people exit the car in front of him. A male seated in the rear
passenger-side backseat remained inside the car, as well as the female driver
and a small child in a car seat in the backseat behind the driver.
The officer removed the male from the car and spoke to
the female driver who was crying and covered in beer.
The female told police that she agreed to give Hope, her ex-boyfriend, a ride
because he was attempting to get back in the child's life. However, when Hope
got into the backseat the baby started crying.
According to police, Hope repeatedly slapped the child's
leg in order to get her to stop crying.
The female told him to stop, and Hope, who was drinking a beer, then
poured it on her head.
The female also alleged that Hope choked her and slapped
her in the face.
Hope appeared in court on Tuesday and asked the judge to hold his dangerous
hearing that day because he worked two jobs and would be attending night school
come September; however, Hope's attorney did not have time for a hearing that
day, and he was ordered held without bail.
