Woman narrowly escapes path of falling oak tree

Posted: Updated:

METHUEN (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A massive oak tree came crashing down on Pinewood Road in Methuen on Friday morning, narrowly missing a woman out walking her dog.

Cynthia Crespo says she was walking her Yorkshire Terrier in her Lawrence Street backyard just before 8 a.m. when she began hearing a cracking noise. Crespo thought her neighbor was doing work on their home until the noise began getting louder.

Suddenly, Crespo noticed one of the massive oak trees in her yard falling out of the corner of her eye. Crespo grabbed her dog and took off toward her home.

The tree fell into nearby Pinewood Road, damaging cars, hitting a home, and pulling down power lines.

Crespo was unharmed in the fall. She says she wasn't even planning to take the dog out when the tree fell.

A tree warden tells the Eagle-Tribune that the 100-foot-tall tree was suffering from root rot.
