Two firefighters and a child hospitalized after fire in Belmont

BELMONT (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Two firefighters and a child were taken to the hospital after a fire broke out on Moon Road in Belmont.

Fire officials tell FOX 25 that they received a call just after 4 p.m. on Friday about a fire at 61 Moon Road.

A 12-year-old boy was able to make it out of the home in his own, but a younger child that was asleep on the sofa woke up to the blaze and ran further into the house. Firefighters went into the building to search for the child and were able to get him out. The child was taken to North Shore Children's Hospital with unknown injuries.

Two firefighters were also transported to the hospital. One reportedly twisted their ankle while the other sustained an eye injury. There was no update to their conditions on Friday night.

The fire was under control by 4:48 p.m. The home sustained heavy smoke and water damage to the kitchen area.
