EASTHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com)- A grandmother and her granddaughter were
struck by lightning in Eastham Tuesday morning.
Beth Caldwell said she was struck when she went out to meet
her family in her driveway with an umbrella. Caldwell said lightning hit her as she took
her 4-year-old granddaughter out of a car.
"I opened the door and then one climbed into my
arms," said Caldwell.
"I was holding the umbrella and there was a pain my hand and my whole arm
started shaking."
It was then that she realized she had been hit by
lightning. Caldwell
said she pushed the girl back into the car, fearful that she may have felt the
strike as well.
Emergency officials said they believe lightning hit the car
and ricocheted into the umbrella.
They were both taken to Cape Cod Hospital
to be checked out but neither suffered any injuries.
Caldwell said
the umbrella wasn't seriously damaged and she's keeping it for a souvenir.
