
Byron Lashus and Karen AkibaBOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Two men appeared in court on Tuesday to face assault charges for a brutal beating that occurred on the Downtown Crossing MBTA platform.
Karen Akiba, 22, of Cambridge, and Bryon Lashus, 32, of Watertown were arrested on Monday by Transit Police detectives and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as well as assault and battery on a disabled person.
Transit Police have arrested a third defendant; however, it is unclear when this individual will be arraigned.
Transit Police officers responded to the Orange Line southbound platform at the Downtown Crossing MBTA station around 12:37 a.m. on Monday for a report of a male being assaulted by multiple individuals.
Upon arrival, officers found a 40-year-old male who had lacerations and swelling to his face and chest. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment.
The victim told the officers that he got into a verbal dispute with a woman who was accompanied by several other males. The male suspects then attacked the victim repeatedly punching and kicking his body.
The assailants fled prior to police arrival.
Both suspects pled not guilty and are due back in court on September 25, 2012.
The investigation is ongoing.
