Convicted murderer accused of child sex crimes currently living near two schools

Posted: Updated:

WOBURN (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A convicted murderer who is currently facing charges for sexual crimes against children took up residence at a home less than a mile away from two Woburn schools after being released on house arrest.

The Woburn Patch reports that 57-year-old Thomas L. Bergeron was arrested and charged in July with two counts of rape of a child with force, two counts of aggravated statutory rape of a child, three counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, and one count of obscene matter to a minor.

Bergeron was held without bail after his arrest pending a dangerousness hearing. The Middlesex District Attorney's Office tells the Patch that Bergeron was held after the dangerousness hearing and the state requested that he continue to be held during a bail review.

Middlesex Superior Court Judge Kathe Tuttman placed Bergeron on house arrest on Friday. Along with his house arrest, the 57-year-old must wear a GPS-monitoring device. He is allowed to attend work and all legal or medical appointments, but he is not allowed to make contact with the victim in the case or their family.

Bergeron reportedly lives near the Goodyear Elementary School and Woburn Memorial High School.

Bergeron served time after pleading guilty in the 1974 shooting death of his sister. Investigators allege that Bergeron and an accomplice planned to kill his sister and parents to collect insurance money.
