Mass. Dems heading to party's national convention

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - Massachusetts Democrats are heading to Charlotte, N.C., for the Democratic National Convention.

Gov. Deval Patrick is scheduled to leave on Sunday and won't be back in Massachusetts until Friday.

Patrick is one of several co-chairs of President Barack Obama's re-election committee and is expected to address the gathering on Tuesday. Joseph Kennedy III, who is running for Congress in the state's 4th District, will introduce a Kennedy tribute on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, Elizabeth Warren, Caroline Kennedy and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino are slated to give speeches.

Warren, who is hoping to unseat Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, said her speech will echo some of the same themes as her campaign.

And on Thursday, U.S. Sen. John Kerry, the party's 2004 presidential nominee, will address the crowd.
