ASHBURNHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A 54-year-old
man was rushed to the hospital on Monday after being struck by his own vehicle.
Police in Ashburnham responded to 103
Stodge Meadow Drive around 9:45 a.m. after
receiving a call that a male had been struck in his driveway.
Upon arrival, police found the male victim partially in the road and in the
driveway. He was taken to UMass Medical
Center. A 5-year-old female victim was also taken to
the hospital with minor injuries.
Further investigation into the accident revealed that the victim placed the
vehicle in reverse and was having difficulty disengaging the emergency
brake. The driver's door was open during
this time, and the victim may have been partially out of the vehicle.
The brake was released and the vehicle rolled down the steep driveway causing
the victim to fall to the ground. The
open door of the moving vehicle also pushed the child to the ground. It is
believed that the car traveled over the male victim.
During the incident, a 9-year-old child was located
inside the vehicle's driver's seat. The vehicle then came to a rest across the
street after striking a large tree stump. The child inside the vehicle may have
contributed to stopping the vehicle from traveling further.
Police said the male victim is the grandfather of the two children.
No charges are expected to be filed in this incident.
Both victims are expected to recover fully.
