(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, is one of the cruelest diseases. It kills muscle-controlling nerves, debilitating patients physically, but their minds remain fully active.

It is a disease that has confounded doctors and researchers alike, but now there is a significant breakthrough.

Dr. Robert Brown, a neurologist from the UMass Medical School, was part of the team which uncovered this promising development in the fight against ALS. Watch the interview for more.
