NEEDHAM (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) A Waltham man helped save another driver on Route 128 on Wednesday night after noticing her car was on fire.

Luke Tripp tells FOX 25 he was traveling on Route 128 southbound near exit 18 when he noticed another car in front of him with smoke coming from underneath it. When he noticed the smoke began to get thicker, he flagged down the driver and was able to get her to pull over.

Soon the car went up in flames. Tripp had a fire extinguisher in his truck and began working to put the fire out while two other commuters pulled the driver from the car.

Mass. State Police identified the driver as a 38-year-old New Bedford woman. Tripp tells FOX 25 everyone involved was able to get away unharmed.

The highway was shut down for a period of time as a result of the fire.
