Former Mass. lawmaker calls national conventions a waste of time
BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) Republicans and Democrats are finally taking a breath after two major conventions during which they nominated their candidate for president.
One former lawmaker joined FOX 25 just one day after the Democratic National Convention to share her thoughts on the events.
Former Democratic State Rep. and former Independent Candidate for Congress Maryann Lewis says they are a big waste of time.
Lewis says the nominees were previously chosen at the conventions, but that is no longer the case. She says they are now more like coronations than conventions. She adds that they are expensive, they don't change many minds, and that people have lost interest in them.
Lewis was so strong in her opinion that she went to a local shopping center to see how Mass. residents felt about the conventions. Watch the video above to hear what they have to say.
