US Sen. Brown, rival Warren condemn Libya attack

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (AP) - Republican U.S. Sen. Scott Brown and his Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren are both condemning the killing of the nation's ambassador to Libya in an attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi.

Brown said he was shocked and saddened by the attack, adding there's no justification for what he called the "cowardly act of violence" that took the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other American personnel.

Warren called the attack "contemptible" and said her thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who died.

Sen. John Kerry called the attack heartbreaking and said Stevens was "a foreign service professional down to his toes."

Kerry, the Democratic chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said it's easy to forget the risks U.S. diplomats face on the front lines of the world's most dangerous places.
