(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The Boston Red Sox could be on the block.
According to the FOX Business Network, team owners are considering a potential sale of the baseball franchise and have quietly started shopping the team to potential buyers.
Fox Business says the asking price is likely to start at $1.3 billion, which is just above the $1 billion Forbes valuation.
The team is owned by the Fenway Sports Group. John Henry is the principle owner of Fenway Sports, which bought the Red Sox in 2002.
The Red Sox have denied that they are for sale. In a statement released Thursday, the team's Director of Corporate Communications said "there is absolutely no truth to the rumor."
The last two seasons have been dismal ones for the Red Sox.
