STOUGHTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – A three-year-old girl died Friday afternoon after being struck by a box truck while walking with her mother to Hansen Elementary School.

The prosecutor's office said Friday night that Shayla Lutz of Stoughton was hit by a passing box truck at about 2:45 p.m. while crossing a street with her mother near the Hansen Elementary School.

The victim's grandfather told FOX 25 that the girl was walking with her mom to the school to pick up her brother and sister.

The truck involved in the accident is from Angelo's Plumbing and Heating.

According to the Brockton Enterprise News, MedFlight was called, but canceled.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and was being interviewed, as were other witnesses. The prosecutor's office said there's no evidence that speed or impairment were involved.

Police said it did not appear that the collision took place in the vicinity of a crosswalk.

Massachusetts State Police were called to the scene to help with the investigation. The statement said the accident reconstruction analysis isn't complete, but there's no evidence from the scene or witnesses to support any criminal charges.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
