(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Prosecutors recommended $250,000 cash bail for a Dorchester man accused of possessing a firearm and fighting with officers during his arrest near the intersection of Colonial Avenue and Millet Street late Thursday night.

Calvin Horne, 26, appeared in Dorchester District Court Friday to face multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute, and aggravated assault and battery. He was also charged as a Level III armed career criminal based on multiple prior convictions for assault and drug distribution.

A judge imposed $70,000 bail and revoked a previous bail meaning that he will be held without bail for up to 60 days.

Horne was released from state prison on July 24 following his 2009 gun, drug, and assault convictions.

According to police, Horne got into a fight with officers during his arrest.  He tried to grab one officer's service weapon during the incident, and as a result, the officer suffered several abrasions, lacerations, contusions, and stitches.

Police recovered a loaded gun with eight rounds on the magazine and one in the chamber. Officers also recovered more than two dozen bags of suspected crack cocaine.

Horne is expected to return to court on Oct. 5.
