BOSTON (AP) - A Boston man appeared in court Monday to face charges in connection with a bicyclist's death last week.
Michael Ahern, 47, was arraigned Monday in Dorchester District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger, and speeding.
Assistant District Attorney Patrick Devlin requested $50,000 bail and that Ahern not drive while his case is pending. Judge James W. Coffey set bail at $25,000 and imposed the driving restriction.
Authorities say Ahern was driving a pickup truck on Morrissey Boulevard south at about 12:30 a.m. last Friday when he struck 63-year-old Doan Bui riding his bike. Bui was thrown from his bicycle and was declared dead at the scene.
Ahern called 911 for assistance and stayed at the scene.
