Explosive devices found on Bridgewater family's front lawn

Posted: Updated:

BRIDGEWATER (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – Authorities in Bridgewater have identified several suspects who may be responsible for throwing six homemade explosive devices filled with chemicals on a Bridgewater family's front lawn.

Police responded to Bob Lowder's yard located at 7 Grange Court around 4 a.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, they discovered six soda bottles filled a combination of chlorine and rubbing alcohol.

No one was hurt, but the five bombs that exploded left burned patches of grass and charred sections of sidewalk.

Lowder told police that he thought the bombs were gunshots when he heard them.

The sixth device that did not explode was detonated safely by the state police bomb squad.

Fire Capt. Raymond Wilcox said a bottle bomb that goes off when being held can take off a human hand.

Lowder thinks the bombs were left by a neighbor who has been repeatedly targeting his family for the past couple of years.

The Bridgewater Police Department has identified several suspects, but their identities are being withheld pending further investigation.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
