MBTA apologizes for extended horn blowing in Hyde Park - Boston News, Weather, Sports | FOX 25 | MyFoxBoston

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) -   A video posted on FOX 25's Facebook page by a frustrated Hyde Park mother has prompted an apology from the MBTA.

Misty McLaughlin, a mother of three, came to FOX 25 at the end of her wits. She posted a video of an MBTA bus' horn blaring, making nap time for her children virtually impossible.

"It's just crazy. When the buses can't get through, they lay on the horn, regardless of the time of day or night. You know I understand they have to get through, but in the same regards…post signs. There are not signs anywhere that say ‘No Parking,'" McLaughlin told FOX 25's Crystal Haynes.

The problem arises when residents and trucks park on both sides of Readville Street in Hyde Park.  Buses have a hard time maneuvering around the parked cars; hence, the horn blowing.

However, the parked vehicles and lack of signs also poses a safety issue.

From Neponsett Valley Parkway to Como Road, which is separated by four blocks, there are no "No Parking" signs on the street.

The MBTA said they are concerned with not only their buses getting around traffic, but also emergency vehicles.

"We will talk with the city and police to address this important public safety issue. If we are unable to identify and implement a solution that addresses the congestion in the street, we will consider the possibility of re-routing the buses," an MBTA spokesman said.

The MBTA also said they are going to tell their drivers to not sound their horns if it is not "appropriate." They also apologize for any instances that have already occurred. 

Anyone who hears a horn from an MBTA bus in the Readville Street area is asked to contact MBTA's customer service department.
