New poll puts Brown ahead of Warren in Senate race

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (FOX 25 / A new poll places Scott Brown ahead of Elizabeth Warren 50-percent to 44-percent in the U.S. senate race in Massachusetts.

Brown is also leading by a 49 to 45-percent margin among likely voters. The poll features a 5.3-percent margin of error.

The results of the poll, done by UMass Lowell and the Boston Herald, stands in contrast to four other recent polls placing Warren ahead of Sen. Brown.

So far, neither candidate has managed to grab a significant and lasting lead in the race.

Many Mass. residents have only learned about the candidates through commercials or news articles. However, voters will get a good look at both Brown and Warren as they face off on Thursday night in a live televised debate.

Contrary to popular belief, it is Independent voters, not Democrats, who make up the biggest voting block in the state. The race is so close, that it is the undecided voters who will be picking the winner in the upcoming election.

The poll leads up to the eagerly anticipated first debate between the two, which takes place Thursday night.
