FOX 25 News has learned that Boston Mayor Thomas Menino will endorse democratic senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.
On Thursday the Boston Globe, citing the Dorchester Reporter, said Menino will endorse Warren Friday at a rally in Adams Park in Roslindale Square. The Globe cited two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, because they were not authorized to discuss the plan.
FOX 25 independently confirmed the Globe's report.
Warren will challenge U.S. Sen. Scott Brown in November's election.
The two are set to square off in their first debate Thursday evening.
On Wednesday a UMass Lowell-Boston Herald poll of more than 500 registered voters showed 50 percent would vote for Republican Brown if the election were today, compared with 44 percent for Warren. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus five percentage points.
A poll released by Suffolk University and WHDH-TV on Monday showed Warren was favored by 48 percent to Brown's 44 percent. That poll was conducted just after the Democratic National Convention, at which Warren had a prime-time speaking slot.
