HAVERHILL (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - Police in Haverhill said the 49-year-old driver of a van died after a police chase on Main Street Monday morning.

Haverhill police said they began following a Honda Odyssey after receiving a report that it was used in a crime earlier in the day. When an officer tried to pull the van over, police said it took off.

A short time later another officer, working a construction detail near Main Street and 16th Avenue, saw the van take a high-speed turn on North Avenue.

The officer said he then heard a collision. When he went to the area of the collision he found the van hit another car, a pedestrian and a tree.

The driver of the van was taken to Merrimack Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead around 11:37 a.m. on Monday.

The 39-year-old pedestrian, a Lawrence man, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The 56-year-old driver of the other vehicle, a man from Haverhill, was treated and released from Merrimack Valley Hospital.

The van driver's identity was not released.

The crash remains under investigation.
