Raising awareness: Domestic violence

Posted: Updated:

(FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – It's a troubling statistic. In Massachusetts alone, 19 people have died this year as a result of a domestic abuse situation.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Jessica Brayden is the Executive Director of Respond, the oldest domestic violence organization in New England.
There's a brand new tragic case from Saturday, a college freshman from Utica, N.Y., was killed in her dorm by her boyfriend. Locally, Lauren Astley from Wayland was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend. He's waiting trial right now. Watch Lilly's interview for more.

Respond has a 24-hour hotline: 617-623-5900.  You can also reach them by visiting respondinc.org. The annual Responding to Domestic Violence Gala is October 12 at the Hotel Marlowe. You can visit their website for tickets and more information.
