A woman who was waiting for a ride in Manhattan ended up experiencing a terrifying ordeal that started when she got into the wrong car.

It happened in the early morning hours on Sept. 29, 2012.  The New York State Police say the unidentified woman was waiting to be picked up by someone being sent by a friend.

When a car drover up to her at the intersection of Dyckman Ave. and Broadway in the Inwood section of Manhattan she incorrectly assumed it was her ride and jumped in the car.

She soon discovered that she had gotten into the wrong vehicle.  Police say the driver refused to allow her to get out and drove to New Rochelle on the New England Thruway (I-95) in Westchester County.

The driver then took the victim's phone and wallet.

The victim decided the only was to get away was to jump from the moving vehicle.

She did just that near Exit 16.  Police say the woman received a lot of bruising across her body but was not seriously injured.

The suspect left the scene without stopping.

Police are attempting to locate anyone who might have witnessed the incident, which occurred at about 3:00 a.m. or saw the vehicle on I-95.

The suspect was in a white BMW SUV, possibly an X5, with dark tinted windows.  He is described as a dark skinned black man, in his thirties, with a goatee (around mouth).  Police say he was well groomed and well dressed, possibly 5'4 to 5"8 tall.

If you have information, you can call the state police at 800-635-8856 or 914 769-2600. Police say all information will be kept confidential.

Officers say dozens of the approximately 200 guests were involved in the melee, which broke out after a member of the wedding party was tossed off the premises for inappropriate behavior.
