WATERFORD, Mich. (WJBK) -
Toxicology results are now complete from the August crash that seriously injured Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. The attorney for the other driver believed alcohol played a role in the accident, but those results came back negative.
"There was no alcohol found in Mr. Cram and Mr. Patterson's blood," said Steven Potter.
Patterson's attorney released toxicology reports Tuesday for the 73-year-old Oakland County executive and his driver, security officer James Cram, at the time of the August 10 crash that left both men hospitalized and badly hurt. The two were not wearing seatbelts.
Anthony Prainito has been charged with causing the accident, but Potter said Pairnito's attorneys are trying to distract from their client's actions by insinuating Patterson and his driver were drinking at the time of the crash because of a bottle of mouthwash found in their car.
"Hopefully this puts an end to it," Potter said.
However, it doesn't put an end to questions about Patterson.
"(It is still not) known what (Mr. Patterson's) residual injuries are going to be, what lifelong impairments he's going to have, and I think the same could be said for Mr. Cram, as well," Potter explained.
Patterson's health is certainly a concern. He is up for re-election and hasn't been seen in public since that crash on August 10.
Monday, Patterson was moved to a facility in metro Detroit for two weeks of intensive physical therapy where Fox 2 has
learned he'll be taking his first steps since the accident. He plans to return in two to four weeks before the November election. He is receiving daily briefings from his deputies, but he's not actively campaigning.
"Mr. Patterson is currently involved with county business today and he has been for several weeks now. He's more than capable to handle his job as our county executive. Now it's about his physical ability to go ahead and get up and be walking more," said Deputy County Executive Phil Bertolini. "We anticipate him to have a full recovery."
Patterson broke his hip, leg, ankle, five ribs and both wrists in the accident.
