SAUGUS (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) The owner of a junk removal company in Saugus returned decades old savings bonds worth some big money to a customer on Saturday.
Leo Guarente, owner of the Junk Depot, tells FOX 25 that last week he helped a woman from Medford dispose of furniture. The woman's mother recently died of cancer.
Guarente says his crew helped the woman go through items inside a hope chest. She took out what she wanted and then the crew threw it in the back of their truck.
While going to another job, Guarente and his workers found savings bonds from 1972 that hold a present day value of over $110,000 inside the chest.
Guarente's discovery came at a pretty ideal time for the business owner. He is currently taping a pilot for a reality television show he plans to pitch to A&E.
