SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- Contaminated steroid injections were shipped to more than two dozen states, including Michigan. The fungus found inside the shot is causing a fungal meningitis outbreak.
The question for anyone who had the pain killing injection is, "How do I know if I'm getting the potentially deadly disease?"
Watch out for these symptoms, which can be mild at first -- fever, headache, light sensitivity, confusion and dizziness. They're similar to symptoms of a small stroke.
The potentially contaminated injections were given from May 21 through September 26.
If you or a loved one started noticing those symptoms over the following days or weeks after getting the shot, you need to see a doctor right away. There are anti-fungal treatments, but the sooner you get them the better.
Meningitis is usually diagnosed with a spinal tap.
