Sources: Second body found in Charles wrapped in chains tied to cinder block

BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - The Suffolk County District Attorney's office says there has been no positive identification made on a body spotted in the Charles River near Boston University on Tuesday but sources told Fox 25 the body was wrapped in chains and tied to a cinder block.

District Attorney Jake Wark released a statement on Tuesday afternoon saying identification efforts are ongoing. He adds that it is far too early to determine a manner of death and that reports indicating the individual was the victim of a homicide are premature.

"We do not release details on evidence at the scene in the early stages of any death investigation. When it's appropriate to release further information, we will do so," Wark added.

The Mass. State Police were investigating the case as a "potential" homicide.

Two separate sources told Fox 25 news that the body was found with chains around it and it had been tied to a cinder block.

The body that was found by a BU rowing coach at about 7:25 a.m. Tuesday is the second body found in the Charles River in two days.

On Monday, the body of an older man was recovered from the river in the same general area. That person is identified as 61-year-old Pedro Colon. Investigators say Colon is a homeless man who they believe was intoxicated when he fell into the Charles and died.
