Candidate Bio: Adam Kinzinger - 16th District

Rep. Adam Kinzinger is running to represent Illinois' 16th congressional district in the U.S. House. The freshman previously represented the 11th district, but decided to run for the 16th due to redistricting in 2011. 

Rep. Kinzinger defeated incumbent Rep. Don Manzullo in an ugly Republican primary battle for the GOP candidacy on March 20, 2012. Manzullo has served District 16 for the last 20 years. 

Kinzinger grew up in Bloomington, earned his degree from Illinois State University and because the youngest McLean County Board member in its history during his sophomore year of school. He was 20 years old. 

He joined the Air Force in 2003, and serves as an Illinois National Guard pilot. The moderate Republican recently because engaged to Air Force captain Riki Meyers, who he calls his "best friend." 

Kinzinger will focus on increasing the nation's fiscal responsibility by limiting government spending, expanding domestic oil production, exploring new energy resources, and encouraging small business growth if elected to represent the 16th district. He also voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act. 

At 34, the congressman is one of the youngest members. He also serves as a Deputy Republican Whip.

Kinzinger is running against Democratic candidate Wanda Rohl. 

Illinois' 16th district includes all of Boone, Bureau, Grundy, Iroquois, LaSalle, Lee, Livingston, Ogle, Putnam counties and parts of DeKalb, Ford, Stark, Will and Winnebago counties.
