Husband of Brockton woman killed in crash grappling with tragedy

Posted: Updated:

BROCKTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) – The husband of a Brockton woman killed by another driver involved in a police pursuit is questioning why the chase occurred during rush or at all for that matter.

Bill Burnham told The Enterprise that he does not understand why police would pursue the suspect at such a high rate of speed during rush hour.

Police attempted to pull over 27-year-old Antwoin Moore, of Brockton, at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Crescent Street around 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Initially, Moore reportedly stopped, but then accelerated hitting a cruiser before taking off on Crescent Street.

According to police, Moore continued at a high rate of speed avoiding several vehicles before running a red light at the intersection of Quincy Street and Centre Street. He crashed into 49-year-old Maryanne Kotsiopoulos' car. Both cars then struck several other vehicles.

Kotsiopoulos was pronounced dead at Brockton Hospital shortly after the accident. At the time of the accident, Kotsiopoulos was driving a brand new blue Jaguar that Burnham had given her as an early 50th birthday president. She would have turned 50 on Oct. 25, reports the newspaper.

Several other people were also injured in the crash.

Police would not say exactly why they attempted to pull over the suspect, only that the incident began as a narcotics investigation.

Massachusetts State Police are handling the investigation.

Moore has been charged with manslaughter, assault with a dangerous weapon, operating to endanger, and other motor vehicle violations in the fatal crash. He was arraigned on Monday in Brockton District Court and held on $250,000 bail.
