Man held in Brockton police chase crash that killed woman

Posted: Updated:

BROCKTON (AP) - The lawyer for a Brockton man charged in a fatal crash during a high-speed police pursuit says the man fled because he thought he was being carjacked.

Twenty-seven-year-old Antwoin Moore pleaded not guilty Monday in Brockton District court to manslaughter and other charges. He was ordered held on $250,000 cash bail.

Forty-nine-year-old Maryanne Kotsiopoulos of Brockton was killed when Moore struck her car. Five other vehicles were involved in the Friday afternoon crash. Several people were hurt.

Moore is accused of leading police on a high-speed chase, then fleeing on foot.

His lawyer Donald Hart said Moore didn't know the men in an unmarked car were officers. A prosecutor said Moore told police he fled because he didn't have a driver's license.

The Plymouth District Attorney also is reviewing the police pursuit.
