DETROIT, Mich. (WJBK) -
The city of Detroit's deal to lease Belle Isle to the state is on hold, at least for now. The Detroit City council on Tuesday decided to postpone a public hearing on the proposal that would have turned the island into a Michigan state park.
Council members say the state has not yet responded to their request that would guarantee millions of dollars in upgrades to Belle Isle. The proposed lease would be for 30-years with two optional 30-year renewals.
Council members also say they want a more complete hearing that would reveal alternative proposals for the island.
