
A Cheltenham High School ninth-grader died Wednesday morning after she was hit by a car on her way to school, officials say.
The Cheltenham School District in Wyncote says the student was rushed to a nearby hospital, but later died from her injuries.
The district has identified the student as Dajanique Brown-Rogers.
In a statement posted on the district's website, the Superintendent Dr. Darlene Davis wrote "Cheltenham High School students were made aware of this tragic news at 10:45 a.m. today via face-to-face communication delivered to homeroom classes by District counselors, CHS Administrators and CHS Department Coordinators."
The district says it is providing group grief counseling to students.
"We, as a District, will do everything in our power[ to fully assist the Brown-Rogers family and will continu8e to provide emotional support to all members of our District during this very difficult time."
The student was hit by the car just after 6 a.m. in the area of New Second Street and Clarion Avenue.
