PHILADELPHIA -

Organizers of the first Help the Homeless Veterans Walk in Philadelphia hope their efforts Wednesday will help to raise awareness of homeless veterans in the area.

The 3.4 mile walk began at the Fannie Mae office in Market City and included a walk across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.

The Help the Homeless Veterans walk is part of the first Help the Homeless event in Philadelphia. The city is one of five cities across the country to be introduced to the Help the Homeless Walk.

Organizers say homeless veterans in Pennsylvania make up 9.9 percent of the total homeless veteran population across the United States.
