Getting Results For Neighbor Of Home On Verge Of Collapse

PHILADELPHIA -

FOX 29 gets results for a Hunting Park man afraid the vacant house next door to his home is going to collapse right on top of him.

Milton Boscana says the incredible mess next door to his home actually caught City Council President Darrell Clarke's attention when Clarke toured seven dilapidated properties on the 3900 blocks of Delhi and Percy streets back in June.

"He saw the house and he was going to make sure something was going to be done," Boscana told our Bruce Gordon. Knock the structure down? "Yes sir."

The move would make sense.

The home- vacant for more than 15-years- has partially collapsed.

A tree grows right up the middle of the structure-- it's not clear whether it's splitting the home or holding it together.

Bricks from the crumbling chimney have fallen on Milton's back patio- where his young nephew plays when visiting.

"My concern is somebody could get hurt," he says.

And illegal dumping has filled the small fenced lot with all manner of garbage.

"The smell is unbearable at night."

That visit by the council president resulted in six dilapidated properties- all of them less than a block away- being torn down and cleaned up over the past several months. Ironically, most of these places weren't nearly as nasty as the one they missed!

Fed up with the lack of action, Milton emailed the council president last Wednesday, pleading for help.

"No response," said Boscana.

Our Bruce Gordon called the department of Licenses and Inspections to report the problem.

By coincidence, an L & I inspector stopped by seconds later.

Bruce then called Darrell Clarke's office to apply some pressure.

Moments later, L & I was back, tagging the vacant property as "imminently dangerous."

Clarke's constituent service rep soon paid Milton a visit, promising the house next door will be torn down and cleaned up within the next 30 days.

"That's good," Boscana told Gordon. "That was a rapid response. I never thought it was going to be that fast from you guys. I appreciate your help."

An L & I spokeswoman reminds homeowners to report dangerous, vacant structures to the agency and follow up if necessary.

Fox 29, getting results!
