The New York Red Bulls honored the life of youth programs coach Michael Jones who was killed on October 7 in the West Village.

The ceremony for Jones, 25, was held at the team's last regular season game Saturday night at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, NJ.

This comes as the NYPD has had discussions with top-level Mexican officials in their effort to find the killer, 31-year-old Orlando Orea-Gutierrez, of the beloved soccer coach, according to the New York Post.

Manhattan South homicide detectives and Intelligence Division officers met in Mexico City Monday with Carlos Diaz de Leon Martinez, the head of Interpol in Mexico, according to the Post.

Diaz de Leon and other authorities promised to assist the NYPD and have already begun searching for suspect Orea-Gutierrez.

Jones, a native of England and was living of West Harrison, was a youth training program coach. He was in the city visiting a friend in the West Village when he was found by police and EMS lying in a pool of blood, his left ear was severed, and sustained stab wounds to his neck and torso.

Orea-Gutierrez fled to Mexico two days after he allegedly killed Jones.

Mexican officials say when they find Orea-Gutierrez, they'll put him under surveillance and notify the NYPD.

The Red Bulls said prior to Saturday's kick-off, the club will ask fans join them in a minute of celebration and applause to honor Jones, as a photo montage will be shown in memory of his life and all of the work he did in his five-plus years with the Red Bulls' youth programs.

The Red Bulls players will wear black armbands and the No. 6 on their shorts, the number Jones wore throughout his playing career.
